Latina - Music in South America

Latina – Music in South America (since 1999) is the most important cycle of concerts organized in South America by a European country. Strong historical, cultural and ethnical ties link Italy to Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay and in order to maintain this bond the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage & Activities entrusted CIDIM with the task of organizing an annual programme of musical events in those countries. The year 2009 marks the eleventh edition.

The principle aims of Latina – Music in South America were: to render homage to the Italian communities of that continent; to create new concert opportunities for Italian musicians (especially the younger generation); to establish new relations of cooperation with South American music institutions; finally, to create pleasant occasions for Italian residents in South America to meet and socialize. A programme of high artistic level was realized thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Embassies, Consulates and Cultural Institutes in the countries involved.

 Since 1999, 773 concerts have been realized with the invaluable collaboration of important South American music institutions such as:
- Teatro Coliseo (the only Italian-owned theatre abroad) with the season Nuova Harmonia and with Temporada Allegretto for junior school children, Buenos Aires, Argentina;
- Fundación Beethoven and Teatro Municipal, Santiago del Cile, Chile;
- Sociedade de Cultura Artistica and Sociedade Interartes, Sặo Paulo, Brazil;
- Serie Musica nas Igrejas, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

 Between 1999 and 2009 the project involved:
- 1.307 musicians
- 99 esembles and soloists
- 773 concerts

 The 8 participating South American countries (58 towns) between 1999 and 2009 were:
