Activities


The object of CIDIM – Comitato Nazionale Italiano Musica is to contribute to the development of music culture in Italy and abroad by encouraging closer relations between public institutes (ministries, local administrations, IIC- Italian Cultural Institutes) and music organizations by means of promotional and coordinative initiatives.

CIDIM initatives cover several sectors of activity:
- promotion and diffusion of classical and contemporary music;
-  continuing systematic coordination of the production and diffusion of music,
- research and documentation on legislative, musicological and historical themes relative to Italian musical activities;
- design and implementation of Data Banks covering the various sectors of the musical and entertainment world;
-  dissemination of initiatives for augmenting music education in the schools;
-  organization of national and international concert series;
- promotion of composers, conductors, performers with particular attention to young professional musicians.

The undertaking of CIDIM to act as a centre of documentation has led to the creation of the BDMI, the first Italian Music Data Base, and to the foundation of AMIC – Archive of Italian Contemporary Music, the centre of information for Italian composers and the BDCI (Italian Composer's Data Base).

Over and above its institutional duties during thirty years of activity,  CIDIM has been Operational Secretariat since 1985 for the special projects of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, of the Directorate General of Live Entertainment, and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The following are three of the projects of international promotion realized during the past ten years:
- Latina – Music in South America
- Allegretto Albania
- The Balkans, in collaboration with Festival nei Suoni dei Luoghi

Since its foundation CIDIM has been committed to promoting young Italian musicians and engaging the attention of music institutions through projects such as:
- Nuove Carriere
- Young Soloists
- Rec & Play – A Call for Auditions

In support of contemporary music:
CIDIM has organized La Nuova Musica project, commissioning musical works by young composers for audiences of children.

Among the projects which CIDIM intends to develop  The Circulation of Music in Italy with the object of guaranteeing medium and small concert organizations top level musical productions and concerts every year, of providing them with financial assistance and of offering Italian musicians new work opportunities.
